Hi everyone. I want to share some exciting news with you. After two years and a lot of editing, my cookbook is being published this year! It is filled with family recipes; gives helpful hints for preparing and including your special needs family member for helping out in the kitchen, and is illustrated to show that not everything goes accordingly to plan. The book is character based to be relatable but fun to follow. No feelings were hurt in the making of this book! It covers ideas for making your work area comfortable for those with sensory differences, suggestions for alternative options in the recipes, and gives hints for how to make the experience as stress free as possible. The idea is to have have fun not to be perfect. It is about making memories.
As I have discussed before, my brother has learning differences, and things can upset him that are not always predictable. He misses social cues and can be off topic in many areas, but we still find time to connect in the kitchen even if it is just eating together. My hope is that my book gives a happy and lighthearted approach to cooking and baking for other families too. Recipes and family time can create new memories, and I encourage everyone to find their own traditions to carry throughout their journey. Differences are unique, challenging, and sometimes messy but we can all find common ground.
Happy Spring Break!
